On Saturday 15th November Jan Melville held a workshop at NPW engaging the 9 participants in the art of creating altered books. As a genre altered books requires those who have held a deep respect for books to lovingly re-craft a book into a new form or artwork. This can involve cutting, folding, adding, detracting, creating niches, drawing and lots of glue. To those who felt hesitant Jan commented “there are millions of books going into landfill” and an altered book gives a book that may be discarded a new life.
Jan shared generously her innumerable techniques and if you would like to see some of her work please go to http://www.janmelvilleprintmaker.weebly.com.
Here are a number of works created by our enthusiastic artist book novices.
